for what its worth.. (your mileage may vary) In my house, the cable connection (and cable modem) is in a bedroom at the front and my study at the back. I use ethernet over mains to link the cable modem to the router. Both ethernet adaptors are plugged into 6-way mains adaptors alongside various other things (TV and cable modem at one end, all sorts of PC-related stuff at the other)and this seems to work fine.
