Anybody know anything about Google's Android? by toysbfun2008-08-22 20:57:06

I write programs for the Blackberry platform... by jdelphiki 2008-08-22 21:24:44
...so you'd think I might know a little bit about Android. My company actually covers a lot of the smartphone market, but we haven't seen very much real-ware come through for the Android. Not last I heard anyway.

I think Android has promise, but Google doesn't have the infrastructure connections to be able to compete with the big boys in the cell phone world. They'll have to develop to one of the existing infrastructures, but when they do, they'll inherit all the stupid things that the telecom industry has always done. If they try to branch out on their own, they can make their own, new mistakes at an order of magnitude (or two) of the cost. And be behind the iPhone/Instinct market that's already blazed the way.

None of this says anything about the Android platform itself, but they are issues that will hurt Google's ability to get Android into the marketplace and competitive in a timely fashion.
