for codec.

I installed the official flash player on my box, and found I could play some files, but not others. Check out the Adobe site's test pages. One of them is here . (Note; apparently Adobe doesn't release a shockwave player for Linux).

There may be an actual "Flash video codec", but if so it's not the only one that your browser uses. On some sites, I will find I can play some flash videos, but not others. Sometimes I can figure out there's a missing codec, sometimes whatever is there just won't work with Adobe's Linux Flash Player

Also, many of those "flash videos" actually incorporate Widows Media files -- which are down-loadable from the "multiverse" repository. If you're having trouble on YouTube -- that's probably why.
