is to protect stupid customers? WS looked at the wine list and decided that overall it was a reasonable list. They give the awards based on the overall wine list not based on only the most expensive wines listed. Since different restaurants subdivide their lists differently this is the only reasonable way to do it. Similarly they don't give awards based on the price charged for the wine, they give them purely on the wines offered. The vast majority of the wines listed were ones which WS rated as good or better. The award indicates that somewhere has a good selection of wine of reasonable quality, this fictional place did. It doesn't indicated that every single bottle of wine offered is good, nor does it indicate that the wine is good value for money. This is an attempt to criticize the WS award for not being something which it never claimed to be.
