Yes, I know that it was what made Congress vote to allow military intervention. I still think it was a snow job, and that the repercussions to world peace in general, and the International standing of the US in particular, should have made them pause. Long enough to learn about the snow job, at least.

I don't quite understand what security interests are involved in respecting the Iraqi government's request. If anything, would security interests not compel the US military to stay longer?
