So, here I am trying to book a hotel room for a business trip to New Jersey next month. Standard rate: $109.00 7 Day Advance Purchase discount rate: $84.00 AAA discount rate: $98.10 AARP discount rate: $98.10 Government/Military discount rate: $144.00 Wow -- that's a heckuva deal there! Thanks, troops! I've found similar at two other hotels. I'm not in government work, so the massive "discount" doesn't apply to me anyway, but it makes me curious: does anyone in the hospitality industry know if this is typical? Can gouging the taxpayers really be posted that blatantly?
