By your argument no one would every use bluetooth and there would be no interest in wireless USB. Neither of them offer more range than a cable and often they add complexity and cost.

And yet people still use bluetooth and are working on wireless USB.

People are even trying to connect the data from your CPU box to the monitor wirelessly, two things that remain stationary right next to each other 99.9% of the time.

Basically if comes down to people don't like cables and are willing to pay to have less of them. The average consumer is nuts.
