pointing this out and telling them how they can fix it, versus the odds they'll take offense that you're complaining or trying to tell them their jobs?

Actually, that's not just a cynical, rhetorical question. If they're the sort of people you'd want to work for, then constructive criticism would count in your favor rather than be held against you. The important thing would be the 'constructive' part; if your advice includes telling them a simple, easy way to fix the problem, then you're doing more than just complaining, you're showing how useful you can be!
