My point was that it's needlessly obstructive and frustrating to make it an image rather than text, or to not make it a link to a mapping service.

There is also the accessibility argument - this method of doing things breaks when images can't be used for whatever reason.

It's a politeness issue as much as anything else. People are more likely to think well of companies which don't set up obstacles (and this is setting up an obstacle; the easier way of doing things would be more accessible as well).
