Gasoline really isn't that expensive by DesiredUsername2008-08-22 09:19:57
Doesn't apply to me, nor to a very large segment by bitflipper2008-08-22 09:54:59

          Again, I quote by frizzgrig 2008-08-22 11:16:14
Their point is that gas was ridiculously cheap ten years ago, but gas is still more affordable than it has been in the past.

If it was cheaper (more affordable) ten years ago, and is not, and can not possibly be "more affordable [now] than in the past." Why not? Because ten years ago IS the past!

Trust me, lots of people cared that it took $10 (more like $15-$20) to fill a tank. Everyone did not have "tons of money" in the 1990s, .com bubble or not. As matter of fact, I changed employers in the late 1990s changing my commute from ten miles round trip to thirty mile each way. I remember (painfully) when gasoline prices moved from the $1.30/gal range to the $1.90 range.
