The UF board is a moderated enviornment where the proprietor and his minions take an ongoing and concerted interest in keeping things on a reasonably even keel. As much pain as it has cost him, Illiad's efforts in establishing/enforcing rules for the board have led to an evolution of regulars who, for the most part, respect each other's opinions and behave reasonably. The folks who can't live by the board's standards have either drifted away on their own or have been "asked" to leave.

None of that is a guarantee that things have always gone smoothly or will in the future. But it's through the vigilance of Illiad, his mods, the occasional influence of the forum jury, and the overall integrity of the board members that keep things running as well as they do.
