The price I remember : Diesel 1990 around 0,90 Deutsche Mark Diesel today around 1.40 Euro (around 2.80 Deutsche Mark) As to the affordable index, we of course don't have your distances to drive on average and our cars have better mileage on average, too. As to "is it really TOO expensive" I don't know. One day the trucking industry is complaining that the fuel is too expensive and they will all go broke, the next day they complain that the roads infrastructure must be extended because they expect the truck traffic to go up 55% in the next years. And with cars it's just the same. Everyone is complaining that they can't afford to drive any more, and traffic still keeps increasing.
