the story is a little biased. I'll accept the numbers they mention as accurate, but they don't say everything. They only briefly touch on the increase in gas prices causing increasing prices in everything else. While that does say things are becoming worse as far as expenses, it's also an argument for them. For obvious reasons, this effect has to follow the gas price increases by a time delay. That time delay means the pain from price hikes in everything else is delayed as well, yet the complaining about gas prices is immediate. I think having to face the gas pumps every week causes people to notice a lot more directly. This pushes news stories, which feeds the flames of 'outrage'. There's no physical reason why gasoline (or energy) should always be cheap.
