UPDATE: PC troubleshooting assistance needed by vampire2008-08-22 07:12:20
I think you are running into 2 seperate issues by Classic_Jon 2008-08-22 08:47:59
That are appearing as one to you.
1)In a Windows desktop environment you are effectively running 6GB of ram when you add the system Ram and the Vid Ram together.
and
2) you may be having a "hot spot" on the Motherboard near the GPU's and the system RAM

To me the first step would be to drop the system RAM down to 2 GB and then only install ONE of the vid cards and see if the problem persists. If the problem does not happen then Add the other 2 GB of system RAM and test again.

If it does not happen then, yank the 2GB of RAM again and install the second Vid card and see what happens. You might also try swapping slots on the Vid Cards to see if one of the cards has a bad memory spot...it is possible...

This will at least let you narrow down the problem to see if it is a Hot spot or possibly a memory issue. From the way you describe things I am leaning more towards the memory issue but can not rule out the hot spot problem totally. If you have another 120mm Fan you can mount in the front OR you can purchase a card slot "squirrel fan" to mount directly under the bottom GPU you may be able to mitigate the hot spot somewhat if you find that to be the issue.

I personally would NOT install an aftermarket GPU cooler unit until I was *SURE* that was the issue. The reason for that is the second you take the stock one off, you void the warranty.
