I agree with everyone saying that body fat %, BP, rest pulse, etc are good indications of overall health. But most people can't measure them (other than rest pulse) at home on an ongoing basis.
A height/weight measurement is something that everyone can do in their own home without any expensive equipment. Everyone knows how tall they are, and most everyone has access to a scale.
If a rough guide tells you that you (generic you, not subbywan specifically) are overweight/obese, then at the minimum it's a sign that you should look into it more to determine if/how much weight you should lose.
I don't have esbita's daily experiences, but just looking around me, I don't see people who would skew the BMI charts significantly.
BMI height/weight charts don't have to tell you EXACTLY how healthy you are. Anyone who says that is a fool. They do tell you whether you might have a problem or not though. |
