Aerobic consumes energy whilst you do it. Anaerobic carries on consuming energy for hours after.

With any weight loss thing, the rule is energy_out > energy_in so the longer that the energy is consumed, etcetera.

I've always preferred weight training to going outside and getting roasted and eaten by flies. (And with weight training, I can stop *instantly* if I need to - and not worry about the three mile walk back home.)
