The battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is over. by Peace_man2008-07-29 13:37:34
Not HD-DVD, too many licence fees by Mrxavia 2008-07-29 13:53:24
China has one problem with DVD's at the moment, which is the price of licensing, its a hefty chunk of every DVD player, so they tried their own 'DVD' format, which was better than DVD but it never took off, so no benefit...
This on the other hand might take off, the Chinese LOVE gadgets, most of the people I know in China already own a 42"+ High Def TV (well those who can afford them), so a Chinese only format really has a chance of working, especially if disk production costs will be a fraction of Blue Ray...

And I would expect High Def pirated films to hit the streets en-mass, its not like anyone buys legal Hollywood DVD's in china as it is, even the supermarkets, western owned/partnered ones included, sell Pirate films...
