What about the paper and toner cartridges? I've got a laser printer at home like the one in the boss' office, maybe I should take one home with me since mine ran out. Oh and I could do with some more RAM for one of my home machines, or maybe I could build myself a new one from the spares..."
No it's not in the same league as office theft, but it's still theft of a sort... That's my take on it. The work I did at the training company, my supervisor would often bring in stuff from friends or relatives for us to fix, but only because it's a teaching outfit. The labour was free, but any replacement parts were paid for by the user.
No need to get snarky, no need to get smug. Just politely tell her if it's nonurgent then you can work on it when you have nothing else to do (as in: not during your lunch break or after hours). And she will have to pay costs for any parts.
Because if you've got nothing else to do then the company is paying for you to sit around (as fun as that is sometimes) and you may as well be doing something. But, if the company's picking up the cheque for repairs to something they didn't pay for, then you may as well walk off with everything that's not nailed down. |
