Welcome to the W:ET post of the day.
W:ET (short for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory) is a free first person shooter game for Windows, Linux and Macs that a large number of UFies play.
Current server: ufet.unserver.de
Server alias: wolfet.uf-et.org (which should always work even if the server moves)
Current server status
Useful information about the server run for UFies (e.g. the password, the rules we play by and some advice for newbies) is available in the FAQ on UF W:ET.
There is also information and advice in the Enemy Territory diary however many of the links in the diary are now out of date.
In addition to this post and the Diary there is a W:ET discussion board for longer term discussions.
The UF W:ET Wiki contains a who's who list and additional information on the game.
Download and installation
The current and (hopefully) most accurate install instructions should be here.
Due to the wonders of the UFieverse the instructions below may be more up to date than those on the wiki or older than the wiki. Are you having fun yet?
The game:
The game and patchs to 2.60b can be found via ftp from ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/et/ or ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/games/enemyterritory/ .
The main game is also avalible for download via bittorrent, the tracker is http://zerowing.idsoftware.com:6969/.
The ET:Pro mod that we use can be found here or via ftp from ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/games/enemyterritory/ .
If these links are not working then email me and I will forward you a working link & password for the windows versions, unfortunatly I don't have space for Linux versions or the bandwidth to just post the link in a public place.
Maps:
I'm not aware of any currently working map download links however the main server only
runs a couple of non-standard maps and these should download in game as needed.
The European server runs a larger number of custom maps which are downloadable from MediaFire using the following links:

Teamspeak:
Teamspeak is a 3rd party voice chat application that some players use to communicate during the game, it's a lot quicker and easier to talk than to type in the middle of a fire fight ;-)
A microphone and headset are a big plus but even without the microphone it is worth installing, you many not be able to talk but you can still listen to what others are saying.

Common command line options (add them to your W:ET shortcut):
+connect [server name] and +password [server password] (you can guess what that does.)
+r_mode -1 +r_customwidth 1680 +r_customheight 1050 (set a custom res if you have a widescreen monitor)
+cg_fov 100 (set the field of view, again, normally only of use if you are running wide screen. I find about 100 to work well, any more and things start to look distorted.
+set fs_game etpro (we run the etpro add on, this just forces the game to start in that mode)
