| I got some insight into women today |

I don't know if it's a good insight, but I got it from my obgyn.
The subject of getting pregnant came up, as it tends to do once you and your uterus are older than 30. And at the slightest provocation, with no indication that I will have fertility trouble, Dr Womb reeled off a staggering list of ways to increase the odds of getting knocked up. These mainly involved calculators and calendars, as well as my personal favourite, "Don't have sex more often than every second day."
I formed two assumptions based on this. 1 - she thinks I am going to approach eventual impregnation with industrial efficiency. 2 - she thinks this because a sizable proportion of her patients do just that.
How many perfectly healthy women and otherwise happy women out there are refusing sex because it's suboptimal for conception? How many perfectly healthy and otherwise happy women out there are counting out the fourteenth day of their cycle so that they don't miss the perceived window, like a space shuttle re-entry? Are we all such slaves to efficiency that we're demanding that our bodies are as well? Are such women actually out there, trying to schedule in the birth of their first child between their first quarter budget review and bathing suit season?
What happened to acts of joy and the fuzzy uncertainty of the human condition? How soon before we have wifi ovaries that send us diagnostic emails like luxury cars, and little GPS transmitters on sperms?
I'm quite depressed now, actually. |
