Obama said he has "always believed that the 2nd Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures." ... seems to sum it up nicely. He believes that a community has the right to limit what weapons it will allow. And that the SCOTUS has the authority to decide where this right steps over the line of the second amendment. Basically, pro-local governance, and pro-Constitution. And I haven't seen anything to indicate his view has changed. He does lack the belief that guns will prevent crime - that private gun ownership is always a good thing. I can't fault him for that :-)
