(and sorry for the delay, work intervened) the difference is that "orientation" (hetero/homo) has to do with physical/psychological attraction, without interfering with normal sexual function (i.e., in general these people are able to interact normally with adults, and don't display psychologically deviant behaviors related to sexuality). Paraphilias, however, especially pedophilia, are connected with psychologically deviant behavior; I'd *guess* (strong emphasis on that last word) that the pathology is prior to the desire for behavior - especially since psychological or psychiatric intervention can modify the behavior in many cases.
