Need some background first:
The momma cat that lives on the grounds where I work had four kittehs about 6 weeks ago. They are just the cutest balls of fur. The momma's people left for two weeks so her food dish is outside of the front door, which means we get to have fun watching the furballs. She is not quite completely tame, so she has taught the kittehs to run from people.
Now, on to today's adventure:
As I was standing by the door having a brain break one of my co-workers was leaving for lunch. Three of the kittehs were playing on the landing when she walked out the door; they scattered. She got in her Jeep and started it up. Just then I saw one run behind the rear tire and jump up. Somewhere. I ran out and stopped her before she could take off. I looked under the Jeep and could not see the kitteh. I banged on the spare tire in case it went on top of it to scare it off, but it didn't come out. We had to assume that it ran off the other side of the vehicle and took off.
After she left we could see the momma cat looking around and calling for the babies; only two of them showed up. We began to fear that the one I saw go up into the Jeep was somehow still there. An hour later the co-worker comes back. A couple of other co-workers meet her at the door and told her about the momma cat not finding her kittehs. As they were telling her, two kittehs crawl out from under the Jeep!! Apparently they rode over 10 miles somewhere under the vehicle, stopping at a store and her home, and would not come out until momma told them it was OK.
The family is now all back together again... |
