...and I don't pretend to know the answer to my question here...but is there a difference between the mechanism behind "orientation" of peddies (sorry for the obfuscation...I'm at work and have to be careful what I type) and that of hetero or homo folken?
Certainly folks from the latter two categories can act on their respective orientations without harming anyone, while sickos in the former choose to (...or are drawn/compelled/ugh...don't wanna think about that part of it...) engage in activities that are brutally damaging and morally disgusting.
From the research I've done on the subject, the talk of pathologies that define their behaviors pretty accurate, but they deal with what happens when these b7's actually act out on their desires. To wit, there is a pathology that they follow to get to the point where they have reduced any aspect of humanity that would prevent them from hurting people (kids). But which is first, the pathology or the desires? If the desires are there first, then do they represent an orientation for the peddies, or is it just some kind of environmental mechanism involved?
In my overall abhorrence at what these sickos do to kids, I really don't care much about the distinction. I'd rather be out in the mobs with the torches and pitchforks, hunting them down...as much against my general nature at that goes. But every time I see a discussion like this come up, I can't help but wonder if, in our revulsion what these folks do, we're not looking at connections/behaviors that might help us stop them *before* they hurt people.
Do we understand enough about orientation to be able to conclusively call one "style" an orientation, one a pathology, and perhaps others "fetishes" or by some other moniker? Does it help us to segregate these distinctions on the basis of what we are or aren't comfortable with? To me, it seems like we need to try to understand a lot more if we're ever going to find a way to stop these people once and for all.
*sighs*
So much for my soapbox speech of the day. Sorry for the snooze, folks. ;) |
