One or two swats, delivered immediately when needed. None of this "wait 'til your father gets home" bulls4. Spanking is useful when a kid is doing something genuinely dangerous, though. It bypasses the cerebrum and goes straight to the brain stem. (What's the major difference between "touch hot stove, get burned hands" and "touch hot stove, get red butt"? Red butt wears off in a few minutes.)
