Yes, I'm not in favour of 'beating sense into a child'. All that does, imosho (and based on kids I've seen who experienced the same), is beat fear into the kid. It may serve for the short time, but in the long run, the recipient has only learned that beating the crap out of someone is a reasonable solution to an issue.

..... okay, I just finished reading the rest of your post (the 'in general' section). I think we pretty much agree. The problem once again, as is the case with many of these articles that we discuss here, is there is a dearth of necessary detail -- all we can do is hypothesize.
