Telling a true, happy story (now with kitten) by UnFair 2008-07-10 00:25:18
like Illiad said some days ago...

My SO and me wanted to have a friendly home in the house I bought last summer by having a cat or even two with us. We attempted to do so in the beginning of the year already and tried to adopt a pair. But the two 6 months old cats had been living wild until they were caught at the age of 2 months and didn't learn to trust man. Nevertheless the tomcat soon became tame and even affectionate while the female kept panicking the instant it knew one of us was looking at it. Sadly the tomcat became ill with FIP after just a week and our vet hat to put it down another week later. The single female became more panicky if possible at all and we decided to bring it back to the sanctuary we got it from and where it had seemed to feel confident. This is the blue part of the story.

Wednesday last week we finally decided to try it again and went to the local animal shelter. They had some 30 cats of all ages and kinds there. In one of the gardenhouses with caged patios they use to keep them there was a one year old tomcat we both liked instantly. Even though it said on a sign that it is shy we had a differing impression. And when SO entered the caged patio the cat was exited to have someone to focus his affection on. There were pairs of cats as well at the shelter but we've already lost out heart to "Ticker" and asked if there is a second cat that would hopefully get along with him. We were introduced to a two months old tabby and were told if it doesn't work out at all that we might bring him back and maybe exchange him.

But anyhow we had to have an interview with annother person of the animal shelter who was going to meet us at our home the next day. But the interview was short and friendly since the interviewer came out to be our vet's SO...

So. On Friday we took the maine coon mix and the small tabby with uns home. It turned out that the two cats not only get along with each other but freshly renamed "Dick", the big one, instantly adopted small Louis and is since nursing him like a good mother would do. They play with each other, run around and discover the heights and the depths of our furniture. They kick walnuts around on the floor and eat each others food together. And they sleep side by side or wash each other every time they get tired from their mock fights. Small Louis still distrusts us a little but Dick loves to snuggle and jumps from the ground at the breast, trusting that we will embrace him and let him hang over the shoulder with his forelegs. Sometimes he even begins to groom the "fur" of the back of our heads then. It seems he not only adopted small Louis but us as well.
