is going back to .45 ACP for sidearms. Those rounds are neat on paper, but don't perform all that good in the field.

One, they do not offer any better penetration against battle field armor then other pistol rounds. Level III Armor with trauma plates is intended to defeat the rounds from a battle rifles (7.62mm NATO, .30'06, 7.62X54R, etc), so you still have to aim for the head.

Two, the small weight of the bullet makes for poor terminal performance. I have read multiple accounts of swat officers dumping a mag into a perp to stop them. With the minimal difference in size between a P90 or MP7 and a short 5.56mm Carbine your better off using the rifle round.
