Free 2D CAD packages? by JimK2008-05-05 12:04:32
Google Sketchup. by Anonymous Freak 2008-05-05 12:15:44
I was about to pay for it when Google bought them out and made it free.

Really is an excellent app. Available in both Windows and OS X versions. (My previous CAD experience was back in the '90s with CAD-Key and AutoCAD.)

To make it even more fun, you can have it import your creations into Google Earth. I now have my house, in extreme detail, in Google Earth. I have used it also to design my basement for our upcoming remodel. For example, here are two drawings that took about an hour total: before, and after. Most of the time spent was measuring the actual room, and drawing the base room. Doing the interiors didn't take much time at all, once I had the base room in there.
