I haven't dealt with many SATA drives yet, but I lean in both the "it's heat-related" and "it's SATA" directions. Immature technologies often take a while to display all their fragility modes; while SATA has been getting more popular, IDE has a huge track record...but unfortunately, really big IDE drives are close to unobtainable in this area, and the overall selection of IDE continues to decline.
If the machine has an interface choice, though, I think I'd swap to the other bus for the replacement drive. |
