colossally stupid operating system.
ok, so I reloaded the main faxserver here at work on Saturday. (went from debian stable to ubuntu server. Just as stable, heck of a lot more recent software, needed a newer version of hylafax)
got all the essential bits working (scripts copied over to print the recieved fax and shovel it around the network)
never got samba working, left at the appropriate time. (after ~1 hour of trying to get it to work)
enter monday, spend 2 hours mumbling, cursing and searching. Finally find some obscure reference that you have to reboot the *client* Aroo? says I. Reboot XP, everything works. (insert the colossally stupid OS mention here)
Discover the second faxserver broke. Wasn't authenticating properly. As I was rather sick of dealing with those problems I ended up evicting it from the domain and making it re-join. Problem solved. (yes might have been a bit of a sledgehammer where a hammer would have worked but I didn't want to deal with it) |
