It's apparently going to be one of "those days" by merlin 2008-05-05 08:54:42
Rule #1 for Help Desk troubleshooting is almost always "reboot the computer and see if it still happens".

I get a trouble ticket about an error message when trying to run a particular program. The error message is that the program path or folder cannot be found. This particular application exe is hosted on a network share and requires a local drive map to work.

I head to the user's desk and ask if they've rebooted the PC. They indicate that they have not. I have them open "My Computer" and we verify that practically all of the drive mappings are gone.

One logoff/logon later, all of the drive mappings are restored. The user is now able to successfully launch the application.

Oh, the user works on our Help Desk.

/me wonders if the smell of irony will wash off anytime today
