SATA are still hard drives, hard drives need airflow to dissipate heat. also: just because you've had a bad experience with a few drives (seen all kinds of sata drives? probably not) doesn't mean all of SATA is bad. but to use your same (mis)logic: IDE must be crap, i've seen many (lost count how many but they were all maxtor with one exception) IDE failures and only one SATA failure.
