When it comes to hurricanes, I've had more than my share of BTDT. Tape on the widows is pointless. Five big rolls of pallet shrink wrap, though, on a house of useful shape (which my current one decidedly isn't) could be a pretty good barrier for flying debris, particularly given the inclusion of a few well-placed vertical stiffening members.

Shrink wrap (liberally applied) saved the roof turbines on several in a different storm.
