The rating is what they test at. That being said, I'm in the same general weight class and was able to use a 250-lb rated system for many years. It's just not 'safe' to do so - IE, they won't allow you to sue 'em if it breaks, or the like - you broke manufacturer's specs.

Note, however, that there used to be ladders, etc rated up to 450+ lbs. Fire companies that have to do ladder egressing from burning structures, fer instance...
