At work, we use film that has such resolution that we can scan at 3600dpi and still not see grain. That works out to 17.3 megapixels in a standard 24mm x 36mm frame of 35mm film. At 4800dpi then you start to see the voids between grains, and that's 30 megapixels. I was basically splitting the difference. I know that consumer film is not quite at that level, but was giving Velvia 100 the benefit of the doubt.
