Teen gangs, homosexuality, Communism, venereal disease, nuclear war, Russian satellites, drug addicts, integration, "Made in Japan", and a bunch of other stuff that it would take me a while to remember. Oh, and atheism, which was equated with communism.
I definitely recall that 1958 was not a very happy time; the early 1960s were worse, but '58 was no bowl of cherries.
In fact, depending upon who you are and what your prospects were, no year between then and now has been a happy time...and I suspect that the same holds true for the millennia that preceded, as well. |
