of "useful". In my opinion, they're useful in clarifying general ethical principles, and in developing analogies which can be used in real-life situations. For a representation of a situation to be a false dilemma, a context for the dilemma needs to be developed, so that one can demonstrate that the dilemma is not, in fact, a dilemma. In these sorts of problems, no context is defined, and the choice presented is a true dilemma. (It's a bit like a mathematical problem in that way.)
