Invoke CRT repair technicians by halfgaar 2008-04-28 07:28:57
Hello CRT repair technicians :)

I have a 19" Eizo T766 CRT here, which is acting up (with an intermittant fault). Especially when it's cold, the screen occasionally turns fully blue, including visible retrace lines of the vertical scan. When it does so, the image also collapses (like turning off an old TV) and the sometimes, the entire monitor turns itself off.

It would appear that there is a short between the blue cathode and ground, turning the gun fully on. I tried desoldering the blue cathode from the neck board; the problem remains, except now the image does not collapse, nor does the monitor turn itself off. This is probably because the output of the cathode driver chip (LM2413) is not shorted to ground this way.

Anyway, the solutions I found for a typical heater-cathode short are: put the monitor on it's face or side and tap the neck, or blow out the short by connecting a capacitor or some power supply between ground and cathode (with disconnected neck board of course). I'm rather apprehensive about the latter, and the former did not yield any results (yet).

I would appreciate any advice I can get.
