Nobel Prize in Medicine: Charles Frederick Gerhardt, for the synthesis of acetylsalicylic acid. Also known as 'Aspirin'. Saved my life more than once... (see also award in chemistry below)
Nobel Prize in Peace: Momofuku Ando, inventor of instant ramen noodles, for his insight: "Peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat." More relevant than ever.
Nobel Prize in Economics: Jerome Kerviel, for showing drastically the unpredictability of the financial markets.
Nobel Prize in Literature: Both to Terry Pratchett as well as to Douglas Adams. Should be quite self-explanatory to every geek.
Nobel Prize in Chemistry: To the unknown egyptian or sumerian genius who invented the process of fermentating sugars derived from carbohydrate polymers of glucose. Resulting in a substance colloquially known as 'beer'. (see also award in medicine above)
Nobel Prize in Physics: Stephen Hawking. Everybody is expecting him to get it, even though nobody really understands his work (it is something with cosmology and black holes, and very mathematical. So it should be worth the nobel prize, doesn't it?) |
