It was a gold color. It was the rounded version. The 1972.0 version was more boxy.
Bought it in Indianapolis, Indiana brand new.
It had its 3000 mile checkup in Salt Lake City, Utah.
During the next about 7000 miles I had replaced the tires, brakes, clutch and had the transmission rebuilt. I put a huge dent in the oil pan that I never had fixed (it never leaked).
I ran "jumps" over a raised railroad crossing until I landed slightly wrong: first the front wheels hit (good) - then the front strut mounts hit (not good) - then the rear wheels hit (very good) then the little camper cap I had on the back hit (oops). I tied the cap down until I could get where I could store it and took it off.
After I got it fixed (new strut ends, front end alignment, new tires, new clutch, rebuilt transmission - twice [repair shop made a mistake], I only put one more set if tires on it and never replaced the brakes or clutch again. I took that poor truck to Turkey for 2+ years and wound up selling it when it had about 90,000 miles on it.
That truck was the only vehicle I've driven past 100 MPH - and I only did it once. We were going down hill at the time. On the flat, it could only manage about 80 MPH or so (took it there frequently). |
