That's spam in general, not just spam to you. I'm not surprised you saw the increase around then; that's when all the new, unpatched, unfirewalled XP machines that people bought for Christmas got put directly out onto the Internet. SIGH. I HATE all the OEMs that give out horribly unpatched versions of windows. Anyway, I doubt it had much to do with the win98 machine (though I don't know for sure); I suspect it was just all the new bots.
