I have been hearing this number my whole life. My mother works for the Simon Weisenthal Center in Los Angeles (which is in part a holocaust museum), and as a Jew myself, the Holocaust has been a salient part of my education and history. I'm only 23, but I can't remember hearing any other number from a source I take seriously. The overall number from the Holocaust is over 11 million people.
