We'd all be a lot better off if people who hold public office didn't just toss off the first politically expedient answer that came to mind when asked about important issues. But that's what they do, and that's why ALL of them flip-flop. Heck, the Democratic Party itself is inherently self-contradictory: What sense does it make to support both environmentalist groups and coal workers' unions?
