Only compensation I want is the product replaced, and they get to improve their QC processes when I point out something that has gone wrong. In almost all cases, I've gotten 'extra' compensation like you did. As for QC failing to catch the flies... I would assume it's like any other large system... you don't check every unit, just a representative sample.
