One witness, University of Pennsylvania sociology professor Camille Z. Charles, likened the "speak English" signs to "whites only" signs from the Jim Crow era. Racist, my rear end. The owner probably doesn't care what color you are as long as you come with cash in hand and speak passable English. Likewise, doesn't matter if you're African, Asian, Latino, or Euro, if you come in speaking Not-English and give the staff of a GREASY SPOON crap for not understanding you... read the sign.
