I understand exactly what you are talking about. by SaylorA 2008-03-20 07:40:02
GenCon is right about a 6 hour drive for me with it now in Indy. When it was in Milwaukee, that was further than I wanted to drive. Also the money issue is more of a problem than time anyway. Last year I spent right around $600 attending GenCon with about $400 going to expenses and the rest for swag and games.

Years ago when I had more disposable income and I was still living in Louisville KY, I went to WindyCon in Chicago a few times. That was during the time that B5 was still being done and JMS was giving a talk there. JMS was not the only reason I attended, but I made sure to attend his stuff. I have a humorous story about one of those events. A friend of mine had asked me to get JMS's autograph on a B5 trading card with JMS's picture on it. After JMS's presentation was over, he had a Q&A session. Well with over 1000 people in the auditorium, people started holding things above their head to attract JMS's attention. So I held up the trading card and it worked, JMS called on me. When he did so, he asked "Is that a condom you're holding?" To which I replied, "Is this a condom? Gee, I thought it was a B5 trading card with your picture on it." Everyone in the room busted out laughing. JMS seemed a little put out and did not answer my question. Later when he was signing autographs, asked him to sign the 'condom', and he acknowledged that when looking back, it was pretty funny
