DVD-ram seems to be the one to go for if you want good reliability, although it only comes in RW and not write once format so it is more expensive and not every DVD writer can write it.

If you go for a good brand then either format should last four years, although if it's important data it should of course have duplicate copies (either on a computer hard disk or using a different set of disks)
