The CD-Rs I burned at 8x play better than the ones I burned at 16x on one of the old CD players at my parents' house. The 16x ones get really really staticky and will skip a lot, and sometimes won't even read at all. It might be the player, though - but that doesn't explain why my discs burned at 8x (from the same batch of CD-Rs) play better.
