You specifically say you've lost TCP/IP connectivity, does that mean that UDP is working?

I guess you don't have any built in ethernet on the motherboard you could switch to or a spare piece of wireless networking hardware you could try?

Ideally for reinstalling XP you'd have it on it's own partition. You then wipe the partition and reinstall windows. You'll loose all your shortcuts but all your programs (except plugins like flash) will be sitting there on the other partition and most will still work without having to be reinstalled.

If everything's on one partition I'm not sure what the quickest/easiest/best procedure is.
